About the Hawks Cup

The Hawks Cup schools competition for Year 9 and 10 students is based on the annual NEC Tassie Cup in Tasmania. It will be played by both boys and girls from schools throughout New Zealand using modified rules.

All participants will receive free Hawks Cup player kits including Hawthorn bags, apparel, posters and stickers with annual trophies awarded to the winning teams.

Schools from the Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch regions will participate in the annual Hawks Cup competitions with an expanded national championship currently being developed for the future.

Junior talent squads will be selected from the Hawks Cup for further skills training over each following year with a view to New Zealand players representing the Oceania team in the AFL U/16 Championships from 2010 onwards.
