In 2009 the Hawthorn Football Club launched HANZ-UP!, a New Zealand community-based football program.

The alliance formed between Hawthorn and AFLNZ will see the Hawks promote AFL football in New Zealand through a variety of activities including KiwiKick, the Hawks Cup, the Trent Croad Scholarship Scheme and annual clinics with Hawks players.
