His first year as captain failed to reach the heights of 2010 when he won his second club best and fairest. An Achilles injury at the start of the season was partly due to that and reduced his output in the early games. However, by the middle of the season, he was back to his tough and skilful best. Hodge was again the ‘Mr Fixit’ for the Hawks, spending time in the middle, in defence and as a spare parts forward. Averaged 25.3 disposals a game and, incredibly, his 17 Brownlow votes was a personal best.

Draft history: 2001 National AFL Draft priority selection (Hawthorn) No. 1 overall traded by Fremantle for Trent Croad and Luke McPharlin.
