Jack Ginnivan has capped off his Hawthorn debut with a Round 1 MVP nod, following his impressive performance in the club's AFL season opener at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the 24-point loss to Essendon, the 21-year-old was a shining light in the brown and gold forward line, kicking two goals in his debut for his childhood club.

Ginnivan matched that with 17 disposals, an equal career-high five marks and eight score involvements.

The Hawks forward was at his dangerous best on Saturday, impressing with his run and carry and speed around the ground.

He was also able to connect well with the likes of fellow new Hawthorn forwards Mabior Chol and Nick Watson, highlighting the exciting future ahead for the side's new-look attack.

Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell took positives from the forward line's performance against the Bombers.

"You can see what we are trying to build," Mitchell told the media post-match.

"It's been a couple of years that we have been trying to build this foundation that can springboard us into September action, and we knew there would be some missing parts when we stripped the list back, and adding excitement into the front half was a priority of ours.

"And certainly Ginni is going to bring a level of excitement to the rest of the team and the Wizard isn't far behind him."

Having been recruited to the Hawks via the 2023 trade period, Ginnivan will now look to build on his Round 1 performance ahead of Hawthorn's first home game of the season against Melbourne this weekend.
