Hawks midfielders Bradley Hill and Brendan Whitecross were among several players to receive new guernsey numbers at Hawthorn Football Club’s 110th Annual General Meeting at the MCC Members’ Dining Room on Tuesday night.

Hill (formerly number 32) capped off an impressive debut season by taking on jumper number ten, left vacant by the retired Chance Bateman, and Whitecross (formerly 37) was handed number 11 following his best season to date.

Up-and-coming defender Angus Litherland shifted from number 42 to 31 and rookie Will Langford swapped 48 to 29.

New recruit Brian Lake will take on the iconic jumper number 17, worn by Club Legend and games record holder Michael Tuck. Fellow recruits Jed Anderson, Jonathan Simpkin and Matt Spangher will wear jumpers 37, 32 and 27 respectively. Draftees Tim O’Brien and Kaiden Brand will don guernsey numbers 40 and 42, and rookie-listed players Ciarán Kilkenny and Jonathon Ceglar will take on jumper numbers 45 and 47.

The meeting was chaired by Hawthorn President Andrew Newbold who spoke of the Club’s preparations for season 2013.

“We are focussed fully on next year and how we, as a Club, can improve in all areas of our operations and performance,” he told guests.

“This is what we stand for at Hawthorn. We don’t look back, we learn from our mistakes and we strive to get better in everything we do.”

The Club also celebrated the contribution of senior players Grant Birchall, Lance Franklin, Jordan Lewis, Jarryd Roughead and Brad Sewell on the night, awarding them Life Membership after reaching their 150 game milestones with Hawthorn in 2012.

They join current teammates Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell and Michael Osborne who have all been awarded the honour.

Other Life Membership Awards were presented to recruiter Steven Barker and trainer Graeme Renshaw.

Hawthorn recognised the life-long involvement of Brian Schiller, Head of Canberra Hawks Supporter Group, and 58-year member and 15-year volunteer Lyn Wilson by awarding the pair Club Life Service Awards.

Football Service Awards were presented to Hawthorn trainers Barry Clarke and Gary Alavakis.
