In this edition of Footy Flashbacks, it was Hawthorn against Geelong at Waverly Park for the Round 1 clash in the 1992 Premiership Season.

The stage was set in the season opener for both clubs in front of a great crowd of just under 35,000 people.  Hawthorn were the reigning premiers and Geelong were aching after being knocked out of the 1991 preliminary final by West Coast.

John Platten and Darren Jarman were some of Hawthorn’s best, however, Jason Dunstall was the star of the show kicking a memorable 12 goals.

Hawthorn were trailing by 28 points at the main break but were in front at three quarter time after an outstanding five goal third quarter performance from Jason Dunstall. His efforts put the Hawks back in the game as they overran the Cats in the final quarter to win by 20 points.

It was a memorable game and a great way to begin the 1992 season.
