2008 Hawthorn premiership player Stephen Gilham will line up against his old side for the first time on Saturday at Aurora Stadium.

Gilham requested a trade from the Club, believing his opportunities would be limited at the Hawks in 2013 and beyond, given the recruitment of Brian Lake as a key defender.

On the final day of the 2012 trade period last October, Gilham’s request was granted when a trade deal was struck with Greater Western Sydney.

So far, the deal has been a win/win – with both clubs emerging from the deal with players making an impact in the senior side so far this year.

The Giants on-traded a little known player from the Northern Territory named Jed Anderson it pre-listed under the AFL zone rules.

The deal was Stephen Gilham and picks 28 and 65 to the Giants for Jed Anderson and picks 29 and 68.

Gilham played 99 career matches for the Hawks, including the 2008 Grand Final.

He has since filled a role as a key back at his new club and played six games this year.

Anderson, meanwhile has burst onto the AFL scene with his aggression, pace and skill.

Such was his impressive summer on the training track, he earned his debut in Round 1 of the 2013 season and won a Rising Star nomination in Round 3.

He missed three matches from Rounds 4-6, but is fit and available for selection this weekend.
