HAWTHORN skipper Luke Hodge has been voted the league’s best captain by his peers.

Announced at the AFL Players’ Association awards night on Tuesday, Hodge was named best captain ahead of names such as Joel Selwood, Travis Boak, Scott Pendlebury and Gary Ablett.

A courageous and selfless skipper, Hodge is widely respected by the AFL community for his on-field leadership and too, for his professionalism off the field.

In other news on the night, Hawthorn forward Jack Gunston was named vice-captain of the AFLPA 22Under22 team as voted by the fans for the second straight year.
