FOUR Hawthorn premiership players have been named in the Australian squad for the upcoming International Rules game against Ireland.

Skipper Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell, Grant Birchall and Luke Breust have been selected in the 24-man squad for the one-off game to played in Perth at Patersons Stadium on November 22, the AFL announced on Wednesday.

Under the new selection criteria, only players who have been named All Australian are eligible to play in the with Breust earning the right just one month ago when he was named All Australian for the first time.

Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson will lead the team after being named coach earlier this year as the current All Australian and Premiership coach.

The Hawks quartet are joined by other AFL superstars including Adelaide’s Patrick Dangerfield, Essendon’s Brendon Goddard, Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray and Sydney Swans’ Kieren Jack and Jarrad McVeigh in the squad.

Hodge, a three-time All Australian (2005, 2008, 2010) was involved in the shaping of the new format along with a group of high-profile AFL players including Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Travis Boak, Steve Johnson, Nic Naitanui, Nick Riewoldt, Joel Selwood and Jobe Watson.
