Hawthorn Football Club has secured talented youngster Jonathan O’Rourke in a trade with GWS Giants on Thursday morning.

The Hawks have traded in O'Rourke and pick 43 from GWS in exchange for the Hawks’ first round selection, number 19 overall and pick 40.

O’Rourke, 20, played eight games in season 2014 and was keen to return to his home state.

Hawthorn Recruiting and List Manager Graham Wright said the gifted speedster is a good pick-up for the Club.

“We’re excited to have secured a trade for Jonathan, and even though he has been interrupted with injury he has shown some real promise in his first two seasons with the Giants,” Wright said.

“Jonathan is a versatile midfielder with excellent ball use, can play inside and out and has a good combination of speed and endurance.

“We’re very confident he will develop into an important part of our team in the future,” he said.

O’Rourke was selected by the Giants with pick two in the 2012 AFL National Draft and made his debut in Round 16, 2013.
