FRIDAY night’s clash between Hawthorn and Richmond promises to be one of the biggest and most important between the two clubs in recent history.

The Hawks and Tigers have never played against each other in a final, and both clubs are still competing for a top-four position heading into this year’s finals series.

A win for either side will be a massive boost to their top four aspirations.

There have been plenty of thrilling contests between these two proud clubs

Five years ago, the Hawks edged out the Tigers in a three-point thriller.

Ten years ago, in Round 21 2005, the roles were reversed.

Terry Wallace was coach of the Tigers, when they kicked a late goal to overrun Alastair Clarkson' Hawks in the dying moments.

The Tigers prevented a late push from the Hawks to run out 20.17 (137) to 21.7 (133) winners.

A young Luke Hodge collected 26 disposals for the Hawks, while current Hawks Jarryd Roughead and Jordan Lewis were also in action.
