WITH finals fast approaching, young Hawk Billy Hartung has his sights set on playing consistent football.

The 20-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a consistent season, playing 17 of a possible 20 matches.

In a handful of matches Hartung has started as the substitute, but he is happy to play any role for the team.

“It’s great to be playing consistent footy and being able to maintain my spot in the Hawthorn team,” the Hawks speedster told Sportsday Radio on Tuesday night.

“Whatever role Clarko gives me is the role I’ll try to fulfil – if that’s being the sub or playing a full game, I’m happy to do either.

“There are times when I’m coming from a full game then to the sub the next weekend… (and) it can be almost frustrating at times the sub rule because you can only play limited game time.

“But to be able to just stay in the team (and) keep holding my spot – I’m pretty happy just to be playing there.”

Hartung, who has collected 20 or more disposals in eight matches this season, has proven his importance to the Hawks with his run and carry and ability to break the lines with his pace.

He said the Hawks were determined to give an improved performance this week against Brisbane Lions, after a 22-point loss to Port Adelaide last round.

“Last week was a little bit disappointing, but we’re ready to bounce back this week against Brisbane down in Tassie,” Hartung said.

“We’re just trying to tweak a few little things.

“We know if we come on game day and we come with a great mindset and follow our game plan, we can beat most teams on any given day.”
