A big win in front of our Tassie fans – Hodgey and Lewis pick up 40+ disposals and Roughy kicks seven majors!

The Rundown:

Hawthorn enjoyed a massive win over the Western Bulldogs last time the two sides met in Round 3 in Launceston last year – with all of the Hawks’ big names enjoying a day out in the Tasmanian sunshine.

The first quarter was a low scoring affair with the Hawks were kicking against a stiff breeze, but they made sure their first use of the wind was a devastating one, slamming on seven goals in the second term to lead by 35 points at the main break.

The second half was as much about the Hawks defence as it was their attack, keeping the Dogs to just two second-half goals while kicking another eight of their own, to underscore what was a percentage-boosting 70-point win.

The Star:

Luke Hodge was devastating in the midfield, racking up a mammoth career-best 44 disposals, nine clearances and two goals in a best on ground display.

Jarryd Roughead (28 disposals and seven goals) and Jordan Lewis (41 disposals) also had days out, with 11 Hawks players registering more than 20 touches for the day.

The Moment:

After receiving a Will Langford handball out of a forward line stoppage, Jarryd Roughead split the middle with high-class left foot snap from a tight angle in the left forward pocket to put the Hawks in front. It would be his first of seven for the day, securing him two Brownlow votes.

The Quote:

“We just needed to make sure that we bounced back from our loss last week (against Essendon) and put in place some of the things that we know that we can do well.” – Alistair Clarkson
