BOX HILL Hawks coach Marco Bello is happy with his side’s perfect start to 2016 – but knows there is room for improvement.

The Hawks made it four straight wins to start the year after they defeated Frankston by 59 points at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday.

The win followed triumphs against Sandringham, Williamstown and Coburg in the first three rounds.

“It was a focus for us to start well, and we obviously have going into the bye this weekend being 4-0,” Bello said.

“We’ve had two of the top teams from last year (Sandringham and Williamstown) and two emerging teams, in Coburg and Frankston. We’re pleased to get off to a good start… but we still know we’ve got a heap of improvement to go as well, so it’s exciting times.”

With the Dolphins entering the match on the back of their first win in 25 games, Bello said the Hawks were determined to start strongly.

“We were certainly cautious of a team that had won its first game in a long time, and to ensure that we started well and snuffed them out early.

“I thought we did that without putting a heap of scoreboard pressure on.

“All signs pointed to us playing a reasonable brand of football. We finished with four goals in the first quarter, so a reasonable start, and we won every quarter from then on in.”

Dallas Willsmore continued his fine form at VFL level, collecting an equal-team high 27 disposals to go with two goals.

Brendan Whitecross (25 disposals), Teia Miles (23 disposals) and debutant Lachlan Langford (21 disposals) all found plenty of the ball, while Blake Hardwick (20 disposals) and Angus Litherland (16 disposals) were also named among the team’s best performers.
