HAWTHORN’s Jordan Lewis says last week’s game against Richmond was probably his best of 2016.

Lewis will captain the Hawks again on Saturday against Fremantle, in the absence of skipper Luke Hodge.

“It just amplifies what you do (the captaincy),” Lewis told FOX Footy’s AFL360.

“You probably still do exactly the same stuff – even that goal that I kicked, it’s probably still just a normal goal but because you’re captain, people see it as an important goal.”

Lewis admitted it was a return to his trademark style.

“Probably my whole career, my game has been based around that style of play (winning contested ball). That probably wasn’t at the forefront of my game (in early stages of the season) and it was back there at the weekend,” he said.

“It was probably a more complete game.

“A lot of the stuff you probably don’t see – it’s running patterns, defending, that sort of stuff."
