Tackle king Shiels starred, as the Hawks downed the Suns by 53 points on a wet, windy Tassie afternoon.

The Rundown

Hawthorn easily accounted for the Gold Coast Suns in the AFL’s 2015 Indigenous Round, recording a 53-point win.

The Hawks were challenged in the early stages of the match with the Suns going goal-for-goal with the reigning premiers, but eight consecutive goals in the second and third terms put the result beyond doubt.

Luke Breust kicked three goals in his 100th game for the club, while Daniel Howe made his debut, collecting 11 disposals in a promising opening to his senior career.

The Star

Liam Shiels was the workhorse of the midfield, not only collecting 28 disposals and a goal but also amassing a remarkable 14 tackles in a well-rounded display.

The Moment

Some quick hands from Jack Gunston and Jarryd Roughead saw the ball finish with Liam Shiels who kicked the opening goal of the second half and steer the Hawks on their way to another win.

The Coach

“It was a tough old grind in tough conditions. We got the result that we were looking for but because of the conditions it was hard to make a judgement on the quality of footy.” – Alastair Clarkson
