Box Hill Hawk’s finals hopes were dashed on Saturday after a 21-point loss to Collingwood at Box Hill City Oval.

Skill errors proved costly for the Hawks early in the game as the Magpies held Box Hill goalless in the second term and took a 27-point lead into the half time break.

Box Hill responded in the second half with two quick goals early in the final term cutting Collingwood’s lead to just 12 points.

However, their inaccuracy in front of goal again proved too costly, with the Hawks kicking two goal and six behinds in the last quarter.

The loss means it is now mathematically impossible for Box Hill to make the eight and they will miss the VFL finals for the first time since 2008.

Tim O’Brien and Blake Hardwick both played their role up forward for the Hawks, while Ryan Schoenmakers kicked a goal in just his second game back from injury.

Kieran Lovell, Jonathan O’Rourke and Angus Litherland were amongst the other Hawks who impressed at VFL level.

Box Hill Hawks will take on the Casey Scorpions in their last game of the season at City Oval on Saturday 27th August.
