THE Box Hill Development League side will be out to break their run of four-straight Grand Final defeats on Sunday when they meet the Casey Scorpions on Sunday.

The Hawks have had a stellar season thus far, finishing three games clear on top of the Development League ladder with 13 wins and a whopping percentage of 195.24.

They also had the better of Casey when the two sides met in a semi final two weeks ago, dismantling the Scorpions by 92 points.

Jake Summers, the leading goal kicker in the Development League, kicked five for Box Hill in that final while Hawthorn-listed player Matt Spangher also played in a bid to push for AFL selection, kicking two goals.

A 2014 premiership player with Hawthorn, Spangher will line up again for Box Hill’s Development side for the match.

Hawks Nick Evans and Sam Switkowski have played regular senior VFL football this season, and Will Murphy has had a terrific year – recognised by finishing second in the A. Todd Medal, awarded to the best and fairest player in the VFL Development League.

There will also be some Hawthorn talent on display, with rookie-listed Hawks Lachlan Langford and Connor Glass all named to play.

Box Hill have a recent history of heartbreak in VFL Development Grand Finals, losing the last four deciders – one to Coburg in 2012, and three to Williamstown between 2013 and 2015, two of which were decided by golden points.

But the Hawks have still secured their share of success in recent times, winning three-straight flags between 2009 and 2011.

They will go in as heavy favourites for this game, based on their current form and the quality of the side which will line up for the match.

The VFL Development Grand Final will get underway at 11.30am on Sunday at North Port Oval.
