The Ricoh Centre was a hub of excitement on Saturday as the Hawks hosted their first VFL Women’s Talent ID Day.

Over 130 female footballers were in attendance, eager to earn themselves a place in the inaugural Box Hill Hawks squad for the 2017 Swisse VFL Women’s Competition.

The hopeful women participated in a range of skill and fitness tests facilitated by Rookie Me.

While many participants impressed across all areas, Women’s VFL coach Patrick Hill stressed the players didn’t need to be skilled in all areas of the game to be considered.

“We’re looking for people who have a point of difference, so you don’t have to be good at everything but you need to be good in at least one area,” Hill said.

“If you’ve got elite speed but your kicking might not be up to scratch, that's okay, we’ll develop that.

"Or if you’re a really good kick but we might need to work on your fitness that's okay too, it’s a real balancing act.”

The Hawks will finalise their inaugural women’s squad across the course of the preseason.
