Isaac Smith has well and truly reclaimed his title of speed king after blitzing the 2.2km time trial at the Ricoh Centre on Wednesday.

The boys started out fast, with last year’s winner Billy Hartung shadowing Smith for much of the first three laps.

In the final lap, however, Smith found another gear and stormed ahead of the pack. By the time the boys finished, there was 10 second gap between first and second place.

Smith seemingly had energy left in the tank at the finish line, which is a testament to his sheer dominance in this event over the past six years.

"[The run] was pretty cruisy."

"We just have to get our time, and we have a bit more of a serious one later on."

Hartung produced a commendable performance to hold onto second place, while Jonathan O’Rourke strode hard to finish third, with several Hawks following close behind.

The first five Hawks to cross the finish line were:

1st – Isaac Smith
2nd – Billy Hartung
3rd – Jonathan O’Rourke
4th – Ben Stratton
5th – Liam Shiels
