The Hawks have completed their second time trial of the pre-season, running the 2.2km course around the Ricoh Centre on Saturday.

The event was held a month after the boys completed the annual pre-Christmas trial, and several players saw significant improvements in their time.

Elite Performance Manager Andrew Russell was thoroughly impressed with the boys’ performances.

“16 of the players ran PBs, so we were really satisfied with their results,” said Russell.

Isaac Smith continued his dominance in the event, holding off the rest of the pack to cross the finish line first. Smith has well and truly cemented himself as Hawthorn’s endurance king; he had already secured a win in five of the last six pre-Christmas trials, and Saturday’s performance was icing on the cake.

Though Smith was without his usual competitor in Billy Hartung, the running wingman certainly wasn’t the only stand out; while Smith looked set to leave the rest of the pack far in his wake, Ben Stratton managed to recover some distance in the final lap, and cross the line in second place just three seconds behind.

Liam Shiels, Jonathan O’Rourke and Dallas Willsmore all strode hard to round out the top five.
