Hawthorn Captain Jarryd Roughead has called for calm following the club’s 0-2 start to the season.

Speaking on Gold 104.3 on Friday morning, Roughead didn’t buy into the sensationalism that Hawthorn are a ‘club in crisis’.

“We are fine,” said Roughead.

It’s only the start of April, and we’ve got a long, long way to go.”

“This is the first time we’ve been zip and two since 2009, so finally [social commentators] have got something to have a crack at us about, but as I said before it’s only Round 3 this weekend.”

Having lead for much of the previous two matches, Roughead believes Hawthorn’s brand of football can still match that of the league’s best.

“Obviously we’ve had good patches during the game, but we just can’t seem to play four good quarters.”

“On the weekend we had a really good first quarter and a half, but in the third quarter we let ourselves down with six goals [kicked against us].

“Adelaide are a pretty good team, I think they will be top four this year.”

The Hawks now head north for their Round 3 clash with Gold Coast this Sunday.

The Suns, also winless in the early stages of this season, have not been without their own controversy with former captain and Brownlow Medallist Gary Ablett this week confirming claims that he may not be at the club beyond 2017.

“I think these days… if a person wants to go you can’t really hold them ransom with contracts,” says Roughead.
