Following the club’s 86-point loss to Gold Coast in Round 3, Hawthorn may look to make some changes ahead of its Easter Monday clash with the Cats.

Despite finishing with a frustrating draw in their final VFL practice match last weekend, several young Hawks stepped up to the plate and forced their names into the frame for AFL selection.

James Sicily impressed, collecting 28 disposals while playing predominately off half-back, before shifting forward in the last quarter to cause damage in front of goal.

Kade Stewart also impacted the scoreboard, finishing with 2.2 to go with his 19 touches and seven tackles.

Ryan Schoenmakers is another who could potentially make his senior return, with VFL Coach Chris Newman full of praise for the forward, saying he is “competing really hard”.

Newman was also impressed by Dan Howe who, following an injury-interrupted pre-season, is yet to receive an AFL call up in 2017.

“Howe finished with 30 disposals so he’s been pretty consistent for us,” said Newman.

“He’s a player that gets in and under but can also provide a lot of spread for us, so it was another solid game for him.

Wingman Billy Hartung travelled to the Gold Coast as the team’s carry-over emergency, off the back of a 30 disposal 1 goal VFL performance the week before. The 22-year-old could inject some much-needed pace into the Hawks line up if selected.

Hawthorn will announce its Round 4 squad on Thursday evening, before finalising the 22-man team on Saturday afternoon.
