It's half way through the 2017 season, and the Hawks have posted four wins and seven losses across the first 11 rounds.

It's mid-season review time: Follow along as Forwards Coach Adem Yze dissects each forward's performance so far.

Jarryd Roughead
11 games, 16 disposals, 1.7 goals (averages per game)

“The captain has been in terrific form of late, working out the balance between his leadership off-field and his on-field performance. He’s been working through that really well and obviously, in the last few weeks, it’s been good to see him in good form.” AY

Brendan Whitecross
11 games, 13 disposals, 0.5 goals

“He finally got his opportunity to come back into the side last week against Sydney. He gives us some really good flexibility with his ability to play across all lines. He’s a hard worker and a really selfless player. It was really good to see his form get rewarded with a couple of goals against Sydney. So, we’re looking forward to him playing a lot more games over the remainder of the season.” AY

Jack Gunston
11 games, 16 disposals, 0.9 goals

“His form has been a little bit patchy here and there. He has some really high standards, I would think he has been playing his role each week but he sets his standards so high that he can get down on himself a little bit when he isn’t at the top of his game but his last two weeks have been terrific. His ability to run and get up onto the wing has been great for us as well so hopefully he can continue to hit the scoreboard a bit more for the remaining part of the season, which we know he can do.” AY

James Sicily
8 games, 12 disposals, 1.4 goals

“He’s come back to the forward line after doing all of his pre-season down back. We obviously knew what he can do in the forward line and he’s popped back in there over the last few weeks. He has some X-factor, which we know, but he continues to work on his game and his balance between offence and defence. He’s giving us exactly what we want, as well as that flexibility to be able to get up onto the wing, similar to Gunston.” AY

Luke Breust
11 games, 14 disposals, 1.7 goals

“Punky has probably been one of our more consistent forwards for the season. Not only with hitting the scoreboard, but with his pressure and work-rate. He prides himself with getting a lot of tackles in his game. He also has the ability to go on-ball at times, which he does really well. But his drop-of-the-ball and work inside 50 has been terrific and he has been rewarded well so far this season.” AY

Tim O’Brien
5 games, 10 disposals, 1.6 goals

“T.O. had a sore hip and has missed a couple of weeks of footy now, so we’re looking forward to his return to the senior side. His marking was a feature when he was in the side and he was also rewarding himself by hitting the scoreboard. He gives us exactly what we need, and he was also able to pinch-hit in the ruck at times as well. So, he gives us some good flexibility and it’s really good to see a young forward who’s coming through and showing us what he can do.” AY

Ryan Schoenmakers
11 games, 11 disposals, 1 goal

“He’s been thrown around a little bit, given we know that he can play either end. He’s playing down back with Box Hill at the moment in case we need him to fill the gap while James Frawley is out. He’s responded to that well and his form is starting to show, as he is really starting to knock the door down to be selected as a back. But as a forward, he has a great work-rate, creates a contest and we obviously know that he has a beautiful kick as well.” AY

Ty Vickery
6 games, 10.2 disposals, 0.3 goals

“Ty has come back into the team over the last couple of weeks and given us exactly what we need. He can pinch-hit in the ruck, which he is doing really well for us, and he is continuing to learn the leading patterns within our forward line. He’s starting to work really well with our forwards. He was unlucky not to score against Sydney, he hit the post a couple of times, but he played his role really well for us and we’re looking forward to him continuing that.” AY

Paul Puopolo
11 games, 12 disposals, 1.1 goals

“We know what he can bring, his pressure is always elite and he brings that every week. But what also stands out is his selfless mindset to block and screen for others within the forward line. He does get rewarded on the scoreboard as well, he is consistently kicking one or two goals a game. He and Luke Breust would be some of our most consistent performers so far this year, mainly because their mindset on having a balanced game is pretty similar. He’s in some great form so hopefully he can continue that.” AY

Cyril Rioli
7 games, 12 disposals, 0.7 goals

“Cyril is obviously injured at the moment so we’re looking forward to getting him back as soon as possible. He started the season quietly but was back to his best in Round 5 against West Coast.” AY
