Despite suffering a disappointing loss to Port Adelaide on Thursday night, Hawthorn’s line up emerged relatively unscathed with no notable injuries sustained during the match.

Hawks supporters will also be buoyed by the imminent return of veteran defender Grant Birchall, who is progressing well in his recovery from a knee injury.

“Birch is going well,” said Elite Performance Manager Andrew Russell.

“He’s back doing ball work and he’s running really well.

“He won’t play this week, but he’s a good chance to play the week after the bye which is good for us.”

Jonathon Ceglar is also making progress in his ACL rehabilitation, with the ruckman edging closer to an AFL return.

“Cegs is training really well. He’s back running, changing direction and training hard at the moment which is good,” said Russell.

“He’s not quite ready for ball work, but he’s getting closer so we’ll see how we go for later in the year.”
