Consecutive victories at Domain

Travelling across the Nullarbor is known as one of the toughest assignments in AFL footy. Over the last nine seasons, the winning team has alternated between the Hawks and the Dockers during their past five encounters at Domain Stadium.

But on Saturday night, the Hawks were able to record their first consecutive wins at the venue since they went back-to-back in Round 2 2008 and Round 8 2009.

Glass gets his first sip

Hailing from County Derry in Ireland, Conor Glass made a very promising debut in the brown and gold on Saturday night.

The 19-year old seemed right at home on the AFL scene, showing impressive levels of composure and an exciting fleet of foot.

Playing across half-back, Glass finished with 15 touches, five marks and two tackles to give a strong suggestion that a strong AFL career beckons.

Jack Gunston sets a new career-high

Jack Gunston obliterated his career-high disposal mark against Fremantle, gathering 35 disposals in a dominant display.

His previous best disposal count for a match was 26 against Carlton in round 17 2015.

Gunston was everywhere on Saturday night, recording a new personal best in rebound 50s with five and also adding a goal to what was an outstanding night for the 25-year old.

Hat-trick of interstate wins

With the win over Fremantle at Domain Stadium on Saturday night, Hawthorn became the only side in the competition to record interstate wins in Sydney (Round 10 against Sydney), Adelaide (Round 14 against Adelaide) and Perth (Round 18 against Fremantle) this season.

Port Adelaide is the only other team in the league to have been victorious in all three cities this year, but with Adelaide Oval being their home ground, we think the Hawks’ feat is much more impressive!

Clarko a happy Hawk after game 300

Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson celebrated a special achievement on Saturday night, becoming the most experienced Hawthorn coach of all-time as he notched up his 300th game at the helm.

His side did not disappoint in the milestone occasion, with the four-time premiership coach pleased with how his charges executed a strong, four-quarter performance.

“The application to the way we wanted to play and the pressure we were able to put on the Fremantle side was first class,” Clarkson said post-match.

“We just slowly broke them down, it took a long time, but it was really pleasing the way we ran out the game and had a pleasing victory in the end having won all four quarters, which is hard to do when you play Freo over here.

“Irrespective of ladder positions it's always a tough game in Perth, and we are really pleased with the way the boys went about it.”
