Breust reaches 300

Luke Breust became the ninth player to kick 300 goals for Hawthorn on Sunday, when he slotted through the first of his four goals. The 26-year old was a stand-out for the Hawks against the Kangaroos, gathering 18 disposals, seven tackles and a game-high four goal assists to go with his goal kicking haul. Breust joins a list of some of Hawthorn’s greatest names including Tuck, Hudson, Matthews and Dunstall by achieving this milestone.

Gunston and Smith impose

Jack Gunston and Isaac Smith were two of Hawthorn’s best on Sunday. The pair combined for 56 possessions, with the efficiency of their disposal a highlight. Only eight of those 56 touches were ineffective as the premiership pair continually set up forward forays for the Hawks. The dominant duo also had 11 marks, four rebound 50s and four inside 50s each, while Smith kicked two goals and Gunston one.

Hawks thrive on North’s mistakes

One of the features of the Hawks’ game on Sunday was their ability to punish the Kangaroos for their turnovers. Turnovers were the downfall for the Roos outfit, as they conceded 13.3 (81) from this source and were only able to punish the Hawks five times from their turnovers. It illustrated the stranglehold Hawthorn had on the game through its entire journey, with Hawthorn leading from the first to final siren.

Hodge farewells Tasmania

In his 46th and final appearance at University of Tasmania Stadium, Hodge gathered 29 disposals, the third-most on the day, along with his nine marks and four tackles.
