Box Hill Hawks receive honours  September 12, 2017 3:57 PM

VFL 2017 Round 16 - Box Hill v Geelong

The former Tiger had an impressive season in his first year at Box Hill, capped off with his selection as ruck rover in the VFL Team of the Year.

Several Box Hill players and officials were among those honoured during the VFL/VFLW awards on Monday night.

Box Hill Senior Coach Chris Newman was voted VFL Coach of the Year, following a season that saw him guide the Hawks from their 10th place finish in 2016 to a second-place finish and preliminary final berth* in 2017.

Two Hawks were named in the VFL Team of the Year, with Andrew Moore selected in the midfield and Anthony Brolic recognised among a six-man interchange.

Moore also polled strongly to register a top 10 finish in the JJ Liston Trophy. The midfielder finished equal seventh on 11 votes, behind Richmond’s Jacob Townsend (18), Williamstown’s Michael Gibbons (16) and Adam Marcon (14), Werribee’s Matt Hanson (14), Richmond’s Anthony Miles (13) and Williamstown’s Willie Wheeler (12).

Melissa Kuys was the sole representative for the Box Hill women’s side, with the inaugural captain named on the interchange of the VFLW Team of the Year.

Katie Brennan (Darebin) took out the VFLW Best and Fairest award.

The VFL men’s side now looks to Saturday, when they will face Richmond in the final hurdle before a grand final appearance.
