Hawthorn aren’t expected to be major players in this year’s upcoming trade period. With pick 32 being the Hawks’ top draft choice in November, they are seemingly lacking the assets to be a true mover and shaker. Nevertheless, as always, there have been a few names thrown around in trade conversations as being linked to the brown and gold. True or untrue, here they are…

Andrew Gaff

Gaff remains contracted at the West Coast Eagles for season 2018, but trade rumours have still emerged, with suggestions that the former Oakleigh Charger wishes to return home to Victoria.  The 2015 All Australian wingman had another strong year this season, posting a disposal average exceeding 29 disposals for the third consecutive year. His elite running ability and high skill level would prove highly appealing attributes for many opposition clubs if the 25-year old was to become available.

Jarman Impey

Like Gaff, Impey has attracted rival interest despite being under contract for next season. The 22-year old has played 75 games for Port Adelaide in his four years at the club, but is believed to be entertaining the idea of returning to his home state, Victoria. The speedster was used as both a forward and defender over his 20 senior games in 2017, with that versatility a strong selling point for teams with interest.

Tim Mohr

Mohr played just the single AFL game for the Giants this season, and has featured only 11 times over the past four years. The injury-ravaged 28-year old is one of the popular clubmen at GWS, but his opportunities at senior level have clearly been limited in the last few seasons, leading the key defender to explore his options this trade period. The Hawks are understood to be interested in bolstering their key defensive stocks, with Mohr a potential cheap option to fill that need.

Rory Thompson

Thompson has played 86 games as a key defender over his seven years at the Gold Coast Suns. Yet the 26-year old managed just seven games in 2017, falling out-of-favour behind club captain Steven May and the emerging Jack Leslie. A fresh start could be in order for Thompson, with the Hawks believed to be one of the clubs interested in the services of the 200cm defender.
