Joining an elite sporting club at the fresh age of 18 would be an extremely daunting experience.

But, our 2017 class of draftees seem to have landed on their feet, fitting in seamlessly with their new Hawthorn teammates.

Initial life as AFL footballers hasn’t been without its lessons though, with the five youngsters learning a couple of important truths during their first fortnight at the club.

Key take outs? Skin folds, punctuality and an understanding of pecking order is vital.

Here is a lesson each of our five youngsters have already learnt during their short time at the club, with a bit of added wisdom from our senior recruit David Mirra.

“Don’t eat a parma and chips and put it on Instagram.”

James Worpel

“Don’t sit anywhere but the front row in the meeting rooms.”

– Jackson Ross

“Be careful with what you eat around the boys, especially what you’re putting on social media.”

– Changkuoth Jiath

“Remember to arrive really early at the club – if we start at 8.15, you’ve got to be there by 7.30.”

– Dylan Moore

“Don’t put butter on anything.”

– Harrison Jones

“Be yourself as much as you can, because you don’t need to change as a person once you get drafted.”

– Dave Mirra
