Here at Hawthorn, we understand that AFL is a team game. Each player, coach and official is but a cog in the wheel of a well-oiled machine, chugging towards success.

But over the next 11 days, we’re forgetting about the team achievements and throwing the spotlight on individuals.

Here’s the question; which Hawk has the most impressive trophy case of all time?

Each accolade has been given a weighting (see bottom of page), and the numbers have been crunched to see who comes out on top.

Follow along each day on hawthornfc.com.au, as we slowly reveal Hawthorn’s Ultimate Trophy Cabinet.

Catch up: The Ultimate Trophy Cabinet - No.7

6th

The sixth-most decorated Hawk of all time, Platten incredibly was part of four premierships in his first six years at the club.

In the context of this competition, ‘The Rat’ earned 20 points for his four flags before he notched a point for his games tally!

This period also included the South Australian winning the 1987 Brownlow Medal, becoming just the third Hawk to do so.

Platten’s place in the top six is made even more impressive given the fact that he is the only member of the group who never captained the club.

Instead, the midfielder earned points for his five All Australian honours (a club record), two Peter Crimmins Medals and, later, his inclusion into both the AFL and Hawthorn Halls of Fame and the Hawks’ Team of the Century, where he was named in the forward pocket.

Points:

258 games (8 points)
AFL Hall of Fame (20 points)
Hawthorn Hall of Fame (15 points)
Hawthorn Team of the Century (11 points)
5x All Australian honours (45 points)
2x Peter Crimmins Medals, 2x 2nd, 1x 3rd (28 points)
4x premierships (20 points)
Brownlow Medal (12 points)

** Despite being a team achievement, we felt it was important to still include premierships, but with considerable less weighting than other individual achievements.
