We spoke to Hawthorn’s Director of High Performance Andrew Russell to find out which of our Hawks have impressed him most across the course of the pre-season.

Catch up: Pre-season Stars - 8

Name: Isaac Smith

Age: 29

Guernsey: 16

Senior games (2017): 22

Senior games (career): 157

Smith has so far completed an impressive pre-season, continuing his dominance in the club’s pre-season time trials after taking out both the November and January 2.2km runs.

The Hawks vice-captain sat out the recent intraclub match at Waverley Park with a minor ankle injury but is expected to start the home and away season at full fitness.

After an impressive 2017 campaign where he averaged 22.7 disposals, Smith will be hoping for an even better year as the Hawks push for a return to finals.

“Isaac has done over 90 percent of the pre-season,” said Russell.

“He’s been really consistent with all of his training.

“He did have a slight issue with his ankle, but he’s worked through that and is in great condition as we head into the season.”

Just one more player to be revealed in tomorrow's edition of "Pre-season Stars"... Stay tuned!
