Paul Puopolo looks set to make his AFL return this weekend when the Hawks take on the Lions at the Gabba.

Puopolo has been sidelined since injuring his hamstring in Round 4, but Director of High Performance Andrew Russell says the triple-premiership forward is ready to go after completing a solid training block.

"He's just come off the training track," Russell said.

"He trained really well, he'll train again Thursday, and we're expecting to see him out there this week which is great."
