Mitch Lewis will become Hawthorn’s third debutant for 2018 when he runs out onto the Gabba this Sunday.

Lewis’ call up follows a patch of impressive form for Box Hill. The tall forward has booted 14 goals from five outings in 2018, and currently sits third on the VFL goal kicking leader board.

His best output came against Casey last weekend when he finished with four goals, 10 disposals and four tackles.

After 18 months on Hawthorn’s list, Lewis was overjoyed when Coach Alastair Clarkson shared the news that he’d be travelling to Brisbane this weekend.

“I was very excited when Clarko announced it in front of the boys," Lewis said.

“It was just sheer emotion, all the boys cheering and getting around [me] was a really, really nice feeling.”

The 19-year-old spent his junior football days with Whittlesea before joining the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup.

Drafted to the club with Pick 76 in the 2016 National Draft, Lewis is the third of Hawthorn’s 2016 draft class to make his debut, following teammates James Cousins and Harry Morrison.
