Burgoyne's body 'as good as ever'

Tom Hussey  June 12, 2018 3:28 PM

Burgoyne recovering 'as good as ever' Shaun Burgoyne speaks to Dermott Brereton on Fox Footy about his family, his contracts and his body.

Hawks veteran Shaun Burgoyne says he’s in as good a physical shape as he’s ever been after making a seamless recovery from a hamstring injury earlier this season

The four-time premiership player, who will run out for his 350th game this weekend, said that after suffering the injury in the side’s win against the Cats in Round 2 he had recovered ‘as well as ever’.

“I am actually travelling along all right… (it was) my first hamstring injury ever, so it was a bit different." Burgoyne told Fox Footy.

“But my GPS is straight back to where it’s been and I’m covering the ground and recovering just as good as I ever have.

”(So) it just shows that my body’s in a good spot.”

Spending an increased amount of time in attack this season, Burgoyne has averaged 20 disposals since returning in the Hawks’ win over St Kilda in Round 6, including a 26-disposal, 10-tackle performance against the Swans in Round 8.

The 35-year-old is also covering as much distance as ever, applying the high amounts of pressure that have become customary in today's game, in what's yet another sign the man known as ‘Silk’ continues to defy the natural attrition of age.

“(It’s) probably a different change in roles, in the forward line the in-thing in footy at the moment is forward half pressure so you just have to do that.”
