Star midfielder Tom Mitchell will require surgery after injuring his shoulder during Hawthorn’s Semi Final loss.

Mitchell was crunched in a legal bump by Dees defender Neville Jetta in the opening term of last Friday’s match, before leaving the ground to be assessed.

Despite the 25-year-old playing out the match, Director of High Performance Andrew Russell has confirmed Mitchell sustained an AC joint injury that will need surgery.

“Tom will require minor surgery to stabilise his AC joint,” Russell said.

“He’ll go in for that on Wednesday, and we’re confident he’ll be straight back into full training come day one of pre-season.”
