THURSDAY night’s game provided Hawthorn players with the opportunity to put their feet up over the weekend.

And Vice-Captain Jordan Lewis made the most of it, travelling to Tasmania with wife Lucy in his role as an ambassador for the Apple Isle, the club’s naming rights sponsor.

Lewis spent the weekend promoting the beautiful state and the luxurious Saffire Lodge, which is located on Tasmania’s east coast, about a two-hour drive from Launceston.

“We flew down late Friday afternoon and we got there about 7.30pm, had some dinner and went to bed,” Lewis said.

“We woke up the next morning to a beautiful view of the water and mountain ranges.

“We were right on the water – there were about 20 rooms, so you don’t feel crowded, you feel like you’re the only people there.

“The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable about the place and what it has to offer.”

Lewis was tasked with testing out some classic Tasmanian experiences.

“We went to an oyster farm, put on the waders and walked out about 50 metres into the water where the oysters are kept,” he said.

“The weather was beautiful – there wasn’t a cloud in the sky or a breath of wind – so we picked a few oysters out of the water and the lady there kindly shucked them for us.

“We ate them with a nice champagne.

“My wife Lucy had never been to Tasmania at all, so it was nice to get her out of Melbourne and show her such a beautiful part of Tasmania.”

Lewis has been a frequent visitor to Tasmania, with the Hawks featuring regularly at Launceston’s Aurora Stadium throughout his 225-game career.

He encouraged people to explore what Tasmania has to offer.

“I would suggest to anyone who hasn’t been there, to go around Freycinet Bay and Coles Bay and see the sights,” Lewis said.

“You won’t be disappointed.”
