The Hawks led the competition for points scored in 2015, and Vice-captain Jarryd Roughead was one of the key drivers behind that success.

The 28-year-old kicked 50 goals this year, and was one of five Hawks to have kicked 25 or more goals this season, alongside Luke Breust (52), Jack Gunston (57), Cyril Rioli (42) and Paul Puopolo (29).

Roughead played a number of different roles for the Hawks in 2015, including plenty of time spent further up the ground.

He ranked second for contested possessions within the club, and sixth in the competition for score involvements per game.

Averaging 19 disposals per game, Roughead again highlighted his ability to dominate in all areas of the ground.

It was arguably Roughead’s toughest season, with the forward facing a cancer scare mid-year.

But always the optimist, Roughead was able to find a silver lining in the forced break from football.

“I obviously had that little rest in the middle period (of the year),” he said.

“It’s not like I was injured in terms of my legs or anything like that, so to be able to freshen up then was good.”

One of just 6 players to feature in the Hawks last four premiership triumphs, Roughead said each of his four flags were equal but the fact the Hawks had to endure a difficult finals series – twice travelling to Perth, and missing out on a week off – made this year's achievement even more remarkable.

"(It is) no different, they're all pretty special," he said.

"(But) we had to go the long way around this year in terms of playing all four finals but I think we've lost one final in three years and two in four, so it's been pretty good."

GM - Football Operations Chris Fagan says...

“He probably had the most interesting and challenging year of any player really,” said Fagan.

“When you have a life-threatening experience like he did in the middle of the year, it can have a big effect on you as a person, and the way he handled himself through that period and the way that he played when he came back was outstanding.

“The team contribution that he makes every week – a lot of people judge him just by the amount of goals he kicks – but we judge him by how many goals he plays a part in creating, which is always a high number.

“His flexibility to go into the midfield and behind the ball makes him a unique player, and he was a really important part of our premiership team.”
