HAWTHORN will take on Brisbane Lions at the Gabba in Round 10, 2016 – the first time the sides have met on the Lions’ home turf since 2008.

The Hawks have won nine of their past 10 clashes against the Lions, which included a thrilling triumph in that Gabba clash seven years ago.

After winning their first four games of 2008, the Hawks travelled north in Round 5 to take on a Lions side that held a 2-2 record.

It was a shootout that followed.

Thirty-six goals were kicked in front of more than 30,000 people under lights, with the Hawks claiming a 12-point win, 19.16 (130) to 17.16 (118).

The Lions led by four points at quarter time, with the Hawks responding to take an eight-point advantage at the major break.

Little separated the side in the third term, with the Hawks holding a narrow two-point advantage at the final change.

The visitors kicked the first three goals of the final term, opening up a 21-point advantage, but the Lions fought back to reduce the margin to less than two kicks.

Luke Hodge sealed the win for the Hawks, launching a long bomb from inside the centre square to give the Hawks a three-goal lead almost 26 minutes in the final term.

Sam Mitchell, Shane Crawford and Brad Sewell found plenty of the ball for the Hawks, collecting 32, 28 and 27 disposals respectively, while Lance Franklin finished with 8.6 from 20 touches.

For the Lions, Daniel Bradshaw kicked seven goals, while Simon Black enjoyed a team-high 29 disposals.
