HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson had plenty to say in his post-game press conference on Saturday.

Here's what Clarkson said about...

The Hawks efficiency

“I think the difference between the two sides was just the efficiency when it went into the front half.

“We were able to defend the Sydney entries well throughout the course of the night and we were able to make the most of our opportunities.

“I think the inside 50s were pretty even, just over 50 each, so the efficiency of our boys when they were in the front half was pretty good.”

Jarryd Roughead

“He wanted to play last week, but we didn’t have surgical clearance from the medicos.

“That meant that he was able to get a really good week of training under his belt this week, and he worked himself into the game really nicely.

“He’s a very, very important player for us – needless to say – but I was really pleased with what he was able to do after his couple of week absence.”

The hype around the Hawks after beating Fremantle and Sydney

“We’ve won the last two titles and that means there’s some pressure that comes with that.

“I’d like to think our players and our club are level-headed enough to be able to cope with that.

“We just play each week as it comes before us – our goal at the start of the year was to finish in the top four and we’re just happy that we’re adding up and the wins and hopefully getting ourselves in a good position by Round 23 to have a good shot at it.

“You don’t win grand finals in July, we’ve got to be playing our best footy in September.”

Bradley Hill’s late withdrawal

“He just got a knock to his calf that just came out of the blue for us on Thursday afternoon.

“We had that looked at and hoped that he’d pull up okay by Friday, but he was still a little bit sore.

“He should be available to play (against Carlton).”
