Hawthorn Football Club officially kicked off the 2015 season on Wednesday night at its season launch and Hall of Fame event.

Held at Luminare in South Melbourne, the night featured speeches from Hawks President Andrew Newbold, Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson and Captain Luke Hodge as they gave an insight into pre-season and the club's ambitions and hunger for more success this season.

While the Hawks of today prepare for another long season, they also heard more about the history of the club through the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The Hawks honoured the contributions to the club of Ernest 'Tich' Utting, Max Elmer, Russell Greene and Shane Crawford who were officially inducted into the club's Hall of Fame.

What the inductees said

Joan Webb (daughter of Ernest 'Tich' Utting): "It means a lot to me. I lost my father when I was 14 and he lived and breathed Hawthorn. I want to thank everybody who made this night so special for me.

"What a thrill. It's unbelievable, it's wonderful, it really is."

Don Elmer (son of Max Elmer): "For dad to be in the same category as all these great Hawthorn people is amazing.

"I was a bit blown away when we got the call. Dad had been out of Hawthorn since the late 70s in an official capacity so to get a call like that you think 'wow'.

"I'm very honoured and proud for my father - exceptionally proud for dad and for mum."

Russell Greene: "I was very emotional. It's something I really never expected - it's fantastic not just for me but for my family as well, which is the most important thing.

"Joining these great names was so overwhelming - I had a look at who was in it [the Hall of Fame] and I knew they are absolute legends of our club. To be included in that is surreal but it's a huge thrill.

"For the last week my daughter Angie kept saying for the last week "Dad are you excited?" and I said "Yeah but I'm really humbled by this experience.""

Shane Crawford: "I have a lot of love for the Hawthorn Football Club after having played here for a long time and being part of the journey. It's a wonderful club and I'm extremely honoured and privileged to be part of the Hall of Fame.

"I just wanted a game with Hawthorn, I wanted them to give me an opportunity to play and I would do anything for them to select me - train my backside off and make sure I had no regrets. All I wanted to do when I started here was to become a respected player who worked extremely hard and did what they were told. To come out at the other end with 300 games and to experience a side winning a grand final and to be part of the club for such a long time, it really is a special thing for a young kid from a small country town.

"It was like living a dream and a very beautiful thing to be part of and I'm so glad Hawthorn decided they would pick me in the first place."
