Star VFLW forward Emily Gilder is confident the Hawks can achieve anything in 2018 after their impressive preseason form continued on the weekend.

The Hawks claimed their second win for the year with a 61-point victory over Carlton in wet conditions on Saturday, with Gilder amongst the side’s best after a four-goal performance.

“I think we went unbelievably well,” she said.

“The girls were relentless and worked hard as a whole and I thought we really tested ourselves of what we’re really capable of doing.

“I think we can really push quite far.”

Midfielder Steph Carroll was another to impress as the Hawks produced a memorable defensive effort, containing the Blues to just the single goal in the 9.15 (69) to 1.2 (8) win.

“It’s really pleasing to go out there and play the way that we’ve been training to play,” Carroll said post-match.

“We were able to really hold Carlton up and only keep them I think to one goal two into the wind.

“So that was probably the most pleasing aspect.”

Set to take on Richmond at Punt Road Oval this weekend in their final hit-out before Round 1, Carrol said the side would be looking to take the game on as much as possible.

“I think we just really want to focus on being brave, taking our chances and playing our Hawks footy that we want to play,” the midfielder said.

“So it’s a really good opportunity for us to iron out any little kinks and make sure that we really are playing the way we want to play.”
