There is a strong argument mounting to say that Isaac Smith is in career-best form.

The 29-year old was the best player on the ground in Hawthorn’s 35-point win over St Kilda on Saturday.

He collected 24 disposals at an efficiency rate of 91.7 per cent, while his four goals equalled the best haul of his career.

His 10 score involvements and 447 metres gained were also game-highs for the Hawks.

In his eighth season at the club, the three-time premiership player has enjoyed an outstanding career over his 163 games.

But, season 2018 is firming as the best campaign of the lot.

Smith is averaging career-highs for kicks (15.2 per game), inside 50s (4.8) and contested possessions (6.7), while his 23 disposals are only slightly bettered by his 2015 efforts.

His scoreboard impact has seen the greatest advance, with his 1.7 goals per game almost half a goal better than his previous best average back in 2011, his first year in the AFL.

Only eight players across the league have recorded more inside 50s than the left-footer.

Smith also ranks second at the club for kicks (behind Tom Mitchell), inside 50s (Mitchell) and disposals (you guessed it! Mitchell), while his 10 goals over the opening month and a half sit him equal third alongside Jarryd Roughead on the club’s 2018 goal kicking tally.
