The Hawks will kick off their 2018 season with a blockbuster clash against Collingwood at the MCG.

Hawthorn Chief Operating Officer Tim Silvers welcomed the release of the club’s fixture today, highlighting a number of exciting matches for the brown and gold army.

“Overall the club is really pleased with the 2018 fixture and believe it is a strong draw for our members and fans,” Silvers said.

“We have drawn a number of blockbuster home games at the MCG and in particular big match-ups against Collingwood, Geelong, Essendon and Sydney.

“We are excited to kick off the season with a home game against Collingwood, in a blockbuster game on a Saturday night at the MCG”

“Our Round 21 fixture against Geelong is particularly exciting as it provides us with the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the 2008 premiership.

“We are incredibly pleased that our annual beyondblue Cup clash against the Swans has once again drawn a prime timeslot, with a Round 8 Friday night fixture.

“The fixture is also a fantastic result for our Queensland fans, with a Hawthorn game fixtured at the Gabba for just the second time in the last decade.

“We will work to confirm our four member replacement games over the coming weeks, which will give members the opportunity to access even more blockbuster games in Melbourne.”

The Hawks have a total of 14 games in Melbourne, nine of which are at the MCG, five at Etihad, four at our home away from home University of Tasmania Stadium, and four interstate.

“It is a fantastic draw for our Tassie Hawks members and supporters, with an even spread of games throughout the entire season,” Silvers said.

“Round 6 against the Saints in particular is set to be a great draw card for fans as we play a Saturday night game at UTAS Stadium for the first ever time during the home and away season.”

Highlights of the Hawks’ 2018 fixture include:

- Six home games at the MCG, beginning with a blockbuster Saturday night clash against Collingwood in Round 1

- Four matches at University of Tasmania Stadium evenly spread across the season, including a marquee night game against St Kilda in Round 6

- One Friday night and six Saturday night prime time fixtures

- Family friendly timeslots with six Saturday afternoon and seven Sunday afternoon games

The Hawks will again play a home game at Etihad Stadium in Round 10 against West Coast despite lobbying for MCG and UTAS home games only.

“While our preference is to play all Melbourne home games at the MCG, I would encourage all our fans to get behind the team in what will be exciting contest against the West Coast Eagles,” Silvers said.
