A little over 20 years ago, a merger was proposed between these two proud clubs, Melbourne and Hawthorn.
The clubs as we know them would have ceased to exist, and the Hawthorn Hawks and Melbourne Demons would henceforth be known as the Melbourne Hawks.
Thankfully, that merger never eventuated and both sides have been able to continue writing their club's respective pieces of history (three-peat, anyone?).
