Three-quarter time

Hawthorn 10.4 (64) v St Kilda 10.4 (64)

Nothing seperates the sides at the final change.

St Kilda kicked the last three goals of the third quarter to work their way right back into the contest.

The Hawks were unable to capitalise on the breeze in a low-scoring quarter.

Tim O’Brien kicked the first goal of the quarter after 11 minutes, before James Sicily followed up with another shortly after.

But goals to Darren Michington and Josh Bruce against the run of play brought St Kilda back into the contest.

A second goal to Bruce on the stroke of three-quarter time gave the Saints a one-point lead, before a Billy Hartung behind levelled the scores.

Sam Mitchell took his disposal tally to 34, with Jordan Lewis the next best on 17.

Half time

Hawthorn 8.2 (50) v St Kilda 7.3 (45)

Two late goals ensured Hawthorn went into half time with a narrow advantage, after St Kilda hit back hard in the second term.

David Armitage kicked the first of the term inside 30 seconds, then Paddy McCartin added a second.

Paul Puopolo marked and responded for the Hawks, before the Saints got their run-and-carry going and kicked the next three through Sam Gilbert, Nick Riewoldt and Darren Minchington to hit the front.

Tim O’Brien marked his first AFL game in more than a year by burning off an opponent to run into an open goal – a much-needed one for the Hawks.

Then a brilliant Luke Breust tackle and goal gave the Hawks a five-point advantage at half time.

Sam Mitchell has been the Hawks’ best with 25 disposals, while Breust, Jordan Lewis and Jonathon Ceglar have also impressed.

Quarter time

Hawthorn 5.2 (32)  v St Kilda 2.2 (14)

Hawthorn headed into the quarter time break with an 18-point advantage over St Kilda.

Kicking with a slight breeze, the Hawks kicked the first two goals of the game.

James Sicily and Cyril Rioli kicked set-shot goals, the former after a brilliant end-to-end transition from defence, the latter from a Saints turnover.

From there the sides exchanged goals.

Nick Riewoldt kicked truly, Isaac Smith went bang from 50 metres out, then Jack Lonie and Jonathon Ceglar benefitted from free kicks close to goal.

Ceglar popped up again on the stroke of quarter time, taking a strong mark to slot his second.

Sam Mitchell and Jordan Lewis each had eight disposals, while Lukes Hodge and Breust had seven apiece.
