Here are some things you may have missed over the weekend…

1. Ladder reshuffle
With a loss against West Coast on Friday night, the Hawks have slipped to fourth on the ladder with one game left in the home-and-away season.

But Hawthorn are still in a good position to finish in the top four if they can beat Collingwood next week – which has been Alastair Clarkson’s aim all season.

Watch: Clarkson's post-match press conference.

2. Equation much simpler now
With the ladder looking as it does right now after 22 rounds, the equation for the Hawks is pretty simple this week – win, and they give themselves every chance of going deep into the finals. Lose, and it’s do or die from the first bounce in September.

3. Sicily’s timely performance
Having not been selected in Hawthorn’s initial 22, James Sicily was brought in for Will Langford who withdrew due to illness.
The forward made the most of his inclusion, kicking two goals and potentially securing his spot in the side for the coming weeks.

Watch: Sicily scores last minute goal.

4. Bad night for ruckman
Friday night was a horrendous time to be a big man, with Hawk Jonathon Ceglar and West Coast’s Nic Naitanui both rupturing ACLs within minutes of each other.

It was a real blow for Ceglar who has been terrific this season after David Hale’s retirement, but the opportunity for either Marc Pittonet or Jack Fitzpatrick to step up into the senior team now presents itself.

5. Did the Hawks just have an off night?
There are many people writing the Hawks off after Friday night’s loss, but did the Hawks just have a bad night at the office?

Hawthorn’s performance was reminiscent of last year’s qualifying final between both teams, which was the last time the reigning premiers lost for the season on their way to the premiership.

6. Hawks putting their hands up in the VFL
A positive thing for Hawthorn is the number of players who are putting their hand up for senior selection in the VFL.
Ryan Schoenmakers now has two games under his belt, Tim O’Brien kicked a couple of goals and Angus Litherland, Jonathan O’Rourke and Kieran Lovell were all among Box Hill’s best in their loss to Collingwood.

7. Selection dilemmas ahead
With players putting their hands up for AFL selection comes a few selection headaches for the coaching staff.
Will Langford and Ryan Schoenmakers were just some of the premiership players who weren’t out there against the Eagles, so there are some quality players waiting in the wings for an opportunity.
