Hawthorn can confirm Jordan Lewis will depart the club after a deal was reached with Melbourne Football Club today.

Hawthorn will receive picks 48 and 66 in exchange for Lewis.

Melbourne will also receive picks 57 and 68.

In farewelling Lewis, Senior Coach Alastair Clarkson thanked him for his dedication and contribution to the Hawks.

“Jordan has been a big part of this football club for the last 12 years and he will be sorely missed by the players, coaches and staff,” Clarkson said.

“He has given great service to the Hawks and his leadership both on and off the field has been invaluable.

“It is never easy to part ways with a champion of the club, but we have got to this point through mature and open conversations with the best interests of both Jordan and the club at heart.

“We wish Jordan, Lucy and Freddie all the best for the next chapter of their lives.”

Hawthorn Recruiting and List Manager Graham Wright said:

“It is disappointing to lose Jordan, however we felt it was the right decision for all parties to facilitate his request for a trade to Melbourne.

“Jordan was obviously contracted till the end of next year, but a move to the Demons secures his future for a further three years and we understand he needs to do what is best for him and his family.

“He has been a great servant to this club and should be extremely proud of what he has achieved at the Hawks.

“With Jordan and Sam moving on it opens up opportunities for our young midfielders to step up and further their development.”

Lewis joined the Hawks in 2004 as pick no. 7 and has since played 264 games.

He departs a four time premiership player (2008, 2013, 2014, 2015) and a best and fairest winner (2014).
