AS the family club, Hawthorn are one big family.

Which is why this Mental Health Week (9-15 October), we’re delighted to share with you a new beyondblue website to support families and help young people get a mentally healthy start to life.

Whether you’re a parent, guardian, grandparent, a favourite uncle or an awesome auntie – Healthy Families is all about giving you the information, knowledge and confidence to support the young people in your life.

beyondblue CEO Georgie Harman said the site aimed to empower families to tackle what can be a difficult subject.

“We know that half of all mental health problems emerge by the age of 14 and young people are less likely than any other age group to seek professional help.

“By creating Healthy Families, we’re providing evidence-based knowledge, tools and supports to really help parents and guardians protect the mental health of young people – and to manage a mental health condition if it arises,” she said.

Healthy Families also offers information for new and expectant parents – a time when both mums and dads are more likely to experience depression or anxiety.

“This website covers everything from what to expect when you’re expecting right through to the teenage years. It really is about improving the wellbeing of every family,” Ms Harman said.
