Hawthorn and St Kilda will once again take part in the annual Blue Ribbon Cup when the two teams meet at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.

Established in 1999, the Blue Ribbon Cup is played in memory of two Victoria Police officers - Sergeant Gary Silk, a Hawthorn member, and Senior Constable Rodney Miller, a Richmond supporter, who were killed in the line of duty at Moorabbin in August 1998.

The Cup is played between Hawthorn and St Kilda because of the location of the incident.

All players who participate in the game will be presented with a silver commemorative medal featuring the Victoria Police badge surrounded by the words “Blue Ribbon Cup - Hawks v Saints”.

A gold version of this medal will be presented to the player voted best on ground.

As a mark of respect for the Victoria Police officers who have been killed in the line of duty, players and on-field officials will also wear reflective blue and white checkered armbands.

Having won the corresponding match last year, the Hawks will be hoping to retain the Cup at the Ricoh Centre.
